Diamond 4Cs—What to Prioritise
A well-cut diamond will look brighter than a larger, poorly cut one. Start with Cut, then balance the rest based on budget and taste.
Cut = Sparkle
Most important. Excellent/Ideal cut maximises brilliance, fire and scintillation.
- For round diamonds, pick Excellent/Ideal.
- For fancy shapes, review light performance/video.
Color = Whiteness
Near-colorless (G–H) looks bright in most settings. On yellow/rose gold, you can drop 1–2 grades.
- Platinum/white gold: aim D–H.
- Yellow/rose gold: I–J can still look white.
Clarity = Cleanliness
Avoid obvious inclusions. Eye-clean VS2–SI1 often gives best value.
- Check videos for SI.
- Prongs can hide side inclusions.
Carat = Size
Face-up size varies by shape. Ovals, pears and marquise look larger than rounds at the same carat.
